Effect of paraffin on cholesterol extraction

      Abstract

      Small amounts of paraffin, as particles in serum or dissolved in an organic solvent, prevent the full development of color with cholesterol in the Lieberman-Burchard reagent, resulting in low apparent values. Hence, the use of paraffin on stoppers or glassware is a potential source of error in cholesterol extraction.
