Abstract
A simple, isotopic method for the assay of alanine transaminase has been developed
involving toluene extraction of the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone of pyruvate-14C formed from alanine-14C. The method has been applied to rat liver, rat serum, human serum, and partially
purified enzyme from human liver. A high degree of correlation was observed between
the isotopic assay and the method of Reitman and Frankel for the measurement of alanine
transaminase activity in human serum.
